Emirates A380 Manchester Airport | EGCC – HD

Plane-spotters can often be treated with contempt. We’re subjected to ridicule and dismissed as weird. Phrases like ‘Get a life!’ or ‘Get a girlfriend!’ come all too often from outsiders who just don’t get our passion for aviation. It’s odd then, that when something out of the ordinary in the aviation world occurs, us regular plane-spotters may not even get a look in. Take for example the 1 September 2010 at Manchester Ringway International Airport (MAN/EGCC) in the North-West of England. It’s a Wednesday, a working day for millions of people in the region, a day that non-plane-spotters would normally go about their daily routine oblivious to the goings on at their local airport.

Crosswind Landing Techniques – Flaps or No Flaps?

Ever since I started flying, if the plane had flaps I used full flaps on every landing. The only exception was when an instructor or examiner wanted a demonstration of no flap or partial flap landings. Going beyond the use of full flaps, I also use the crab and kick method to deal with crosswinds. I do not cross control on final to maintain the runway centerline. No exception. My landing technique is consistent and never varies. I start with speed control.

Extending the Search for Air France flight 447

Eleven months after the tragic crash of Air France Flight 447 the French government is still searching for wreckage. Flight 447 crashed while en route from Brazil to France, killing all 228 passengers and crew on board. The search is being carried out in the ocean to the northeast of Brazil, as deep as 13,100 feet. Approximately 1,000 pieces of the aircrafts wreckage have been retrieved from the ocean. This wreckage has been beneficial in helping inspectors understand the jets impact with the water, but they have not provided any definitive information surrounding the cause of the accident.

Major Changes at Answers for Pilots

Hello visitors, my name is Sam and I’m the developer of Answers for Pilots. The owner, James, and I have been planning a redesign and revamp of Answers for Pilots for a long time now, and we are excited to finally put it into action. We wanted to release the new AfP as soon as possible due to our site being featured in our local newspaper, YDR (see article here)…so I’ve coded the majority of the new features, but some are still in progress which will go live in the next few weeks. We ask you to at least skim this post using the quick links down below, and refer to this page if you come across any questions. I’m sure your question will be answered in here. If after reading through here you still have a question, please contact the administrator using our contact form.
